Girls can do anything boys can do, and tonight Mackenzie started basketball for the Jr. Jazz,
but Mackenzie was the ONLY girl on both her own team AND against the other team as well.
That didn't seem to slow her down at all, in fact, she was able to play just as good maybe even better then some of the boys. She used her height as an advantage and was able to block the ball and guard the player from the other team and she even stole the ball from a boy from the other team.
I was proud of her, but she does have a "girly" run. As she runs down the court, it has a skip and a trot all in one. It is pretty cute to watch.

Watch out BOYS, Mackenzie has some major GIRL POWER and she is not afraid to use it when she goes onto the court.
One thing I think is so cute to watch during the games, is that there is no fouls, no boundaries, and you don't have to dribble down the court. They try and teach the kids the rule of the game, but they also want the kids to gain the confidence and have fun with the sport. I think that is excellent for Mackenzie and the other players on the team. Sometimes the parents get too involved and put pressure on these kids and they forget that it is suppose to be fun.
We are all looking forward to watching Mackenzie improve and and dominate the boys this basketball season. This should be a fun two months.
I think what seemed to help Mackenzie play this year on the team was that she is lucky enough to be on the same team as two of her friends from her 2nd grade class...Johnny (who is in the picture with her) and Taylor. Also, she has boys that are in the same grade, so she sees them at church and at school.
Johnny and Mackenzie have been in the same first AND second grade class. They have been in the same primary class as well...we tease Kenzie that Johnny is her BOYFRIEND, but she just smiles and says that he is just a really good friend. (That is how Dan and I fell in love, we were friends at first, with being friends, there is no pressure.) Either way, the two of them, Kenzie and Johnny have a fun bond right now and that is what is important. Heaven for bid the two of them ever having to be separated...

Jayden started last night too, he did a great job considering he went in VERY blindly. I think he's done little more than dribble a ball in his lifetime, so to get thrown into a game his first time out was a little intimidating. At least he has height on his side...
What team is Mackenzie on? Jayden is team six. We'll keep an eye out for you! (She looks SO cute, by the way.)
PS He's #31 too! He'll think that's so cool that they have the same number.
Awwwwwww, good post! Heaven forbid they ever get seperated is right! We're so glad they're on the same team!
Way cool Kenzie is in basketball! Wish I'd known they started in Lehi-Abbey would have LOVED to be in it. She lives, dreams and breathes basketball. Abbey saw that she's in b-ball and has a close friend thats a boy and decided they are a lot a like and should play sometime! SO drop us a line
